What Happens When The Owner Of A YouTube Channel Dies?

Whenever a famous YouTuber dies, there is always an end question: What will happen to their channel, or given the channel’s inactivity, will the uploaded videos eventually be deleted by themselves? Well, there are only two things that could happen to the YouTube channel.

So what happens when the owner of a YouTube Channel dies? Their immediate family members can download everything to save their content and delete and deactivate the account after the owner’s death. If the family knows the password, they can erase it without verifying it. But if they don’t, they will have to go another way (we have discussed that down below). After that, they can start a new channel in honor of the former owner and upload any content they wish.

What Google Has To Say About This?

As per Google terms, there are two alternatives for a deceased user’s account.

  • One is that if the developer had created a plan using Google’s “inactive account manager” feature, Google will simply follow it. You can choose whether to deactivate your account if you are no longer using it or if you wish to give someone else access to information. In the Inactive Account Manager, you can tell Google what you wish to do so that no one else has a say on it. The channel will be fully controlled as per your liking.
  • Many people die without leaving detailed instructions for managing their online accounts. Google, therefore, has set a different choice. With that, a deceased person’s family member or another reliable party can seek access to their account.

In any of these scenarios, Google commits to take responsibility for maintaining the security, privacy, and safety of users’ information. They cannot provide passwords and other login information.

Moreover, any decision on the request for the credentials of a deceased user ID will only be made following a thorough review. The user’s family can only request the three things listed below in relation to their YouTube account:

  • Close a deceased user’s account.
  • Obtain any form of data from a deceased user’s account
  • Or submit a request for money from their account.

How to Submit Request for Deactivating a Deceased Person’s Account?

If one does not have the deceased person’s credentials, they will have to contact the company directly to request that the account be deleted. They must submit a request on Google’s platform, which will then be carefully considered. The company is hesitant to secure any information regarding the deceased’s account, so follow the rules and do not try to deceive the system.

  • Search Google’s support page and open the first link.
  • When on the request page, select the ‘close the account of a deceased user’ option.
  • You must choose whether you are an immediate family member or a legal representative (If you are acting on behalf of a relative of the person but are not related to them, enter their information instead).
  • Upload identification images, such as a driver’s license or other document proving your identity, as well as a death certificate for the deceased.

We hope now you know what happens with channels of deceased YouTubers and how one can bring back the dead YouTube channels.
