What Is A YouTube Monetized Channel?

YouTube receives over 2.1 billion monthly active users from all around the world, approximately 122 million users a day! Considering the sheer quantity of viewers you can receive on YouTube, it makes sense to try and monetize your YouTube channel?

What does it mean to monetize your YouTube channel? And how can it be done? Read on!

What Does YouTube Monetization Mean?

To put it simply, monetizing means earning revenue from your YouTube videos. Even if you didn’t start your YouTube journey to make money, you can still create a new income stream for yourself at some point.

Anyone can start to monetize their YouTube channel, so long as they meet the eligibility criteria. The ultimate rule here is, however, to produce quality content. You can generate a healthy revenue stream if you produce consistent quality content that your viewers want to see.

How Can You Monetize Your YouTube Channel?

You can monetize your YouTube channel primarily through YouTube’s monetization models, one that is linked with Google AdSense called the YouTube Partner Program.

The concept here is to allow businesses to advertise on YouTube at some point through your video. The owner, being you, can then earn a sum based on the number of times a viewer sees a complete advertisement.

However, there are other popular ways to monetize your YouTube channel, including affiliate marketing, becoming an influencer, crowdfunding, selling online courses, or by directing traffic to your web landing pages for conversions.

What Is YouTube Partner Program?

You need to join YouTube’s Partner Program to set your channel up for monetization. This is one of the most common methods of monetizing your YouTube channel and probably one of the easiest.

To do so, you will have to meet certain requirements.

  1. Make sure you follow YouTube’s monetization policies, including community guidelines, terms of service, copyright policies, and Google AdSense policies.
  2. Make sure the YouTube partner program is available in your region/country
  3. You should have over 4000 hours of users viewing your content over the past 12 months
  4. You should have at least 1000 subscribers
  5. You should have a Google AdSense account and have it linked to your YouTube channel.
  6. You should have no active community guidelines strikes.

How to Join YouTube’s Partner Program?

Once you meet YouTube’s partner program requirements, you can apply for YPP. To monetize YouTube:

  1. Log in to your YouTube studio account
  2. In the left navigation bar, click on monetization
  3. You’ll see a “notify me when I’m eligible” button. If you meet the threshold to get into YPP, click it to receive an email confirming your eligibility.
  4. Once you’re eligible, you will see a green “done” sign.
  5. When you sign up for the YouTube partner program, your channel will enter the review queue (even if you meet the threshold). YouTube will need time to make sure your channel follows its guidelines.
  6. YouTube may take up to 1 month to review your channel; however, it may take longer at times.

Once you are accepted into YouTube’s Partner Program, you can monetize your channel and start to earn revenue. This is how to get paid on YouTube.
