Make Money in Your Backyard by Being a Sniffspot Host

With so many ways to make money from home, the best one might be to raise money from your backyard.

We’re trying another interesting side hustle today-renting your backyard. Just like using Earbob to rent your home or space, you can also rent your backyard to dog owners.

Sniffspot is a company where you can make money in your backyard without a lot of effort. All is made very simple via Sniffspot, from listing your room to interacting with the dog owners.

Here’s a little bit about how her creator, David Adams, started Sniffspot.

How did you launch Sniffspot? Tell us the tale behind it

Sniffspot had come out of my own question. My partner and I have two puppies. I used to take one of our dogs to the dog park, Soba, but there we still had bad experiences with it being filthy, or full of unfriendly dogs. In the meantime, my wife Rebecca has been traveling widely with our dog Toshii. She said I wish I had an app where I could find places to let Toshii play while I was on the drive.

We saw all this open land and vacant yards around Seattle, so we figured why not try to be Airbnb for off-leash dog areas? We posted on Facebook about it and more than 1,000 people interacted with it, so we put up a website and it has been ever since!

What’s the best function for hosts at Sniffspot?

The best thing about Sniffspot for hosts is that hosts can also support dogs and at the same time gain passive income. Anybody needs to protect people. And most people wouldn’t know about the passive profits. The cool thing about Sniffspot is that no research needs to be done by the host; they can just let people use their yard and make the money.

It is much better than many other gigs charging by the hour or by the job. We have a few hosts who receive more than $1,000 a month.

What cities now have Sniffspot available? Planning to extend to other locations?

We’re available from around the world. We have spots all over the United States and Canada and in countries all over the world!

Here’s a thorough interview on making money in your backyard, from a good Sniffspot host.

Please tell us about yourself and how you got to know Sniffspot. How did you kick off?

I am Preston Chovanak and I am an EvCC student at this time. Via some advertising, I learned about Sniffspot that it was running about having new hosts. We have plenty of trails and connections to a DNR reserve over at Black Pond Farm so I figured why not check it out? I just went ahead and signed up after going through what was needed to get the Sniffspot started; it was super easy.

What’s the way to become a host on Sniffspot? Are there any necessary conditions?

To be a sniffspot host, all you need to do is make your listing, and then fill out the form on the website of Sniffspot. It will ask for some simple information about the Sniffspot, for a way to get in contact with you, and it will give you the option to upload your sniffspot pictures right then.

Even before our parking and guidance signs turned up I had people booking up! People booked briefly after I put up the Sniffspot; I haven’t even got a review yet.

What is the best feature of being a host on Sniffspot?

Some of the best aspects of being a host at Sniffspot are

1) Ability to share our property and trails with anyone who wants to use them.

2) Get input from the guests on what they want to see at our spot and what they want.

3) Just have the opportunity to make active income easily through Sniffspot itself.

What amount of money do you make as a host every month?

How much you make a month depends on the weather, vacations, etc. It’s always been at least $530 overall for my full month slots after the portion of Sniffspot is accounted for.

Are there any risks to this side hustle involved? Can you supply the dog owners with something else, such as pet toys, water buckets, etc?

There need not be any additional costs associated with Sniffspot itself. If you’re trying to make your Sniffspot more fun for the guests, however, you can buy different things for them to use at your spot.

We still have a few dry towels at my house, big sprays, a clean bucket of water, and some toys, for example. Before each guest arrives we hold them in a watertight bin by the trailhead next to the water bucket that we refill.

Would you have any tips on being a host on Sniffspot for anyone interested?

I would like to recommend adding some nice pictures to your page for prospective Sniffspot hosts, being very descriptive in identifying the possible “hazards” at your Sniffspot if any, and listening to your guests ‘suggestions about what to add to them. At your particular Sniffspot the guests will know what they want to find!

I am thankful to David and Preston for providing this great insight into Sniffspot.

If it’s your thing to passively earn money, then try Sniffspot and make money in your backyard.
